Khandeshwar Devi Temple Dehradun, Uttarakhand –
Travel plans for our quick freshening visit to the Garhwal Himalayas in Dehradun were like they always are – non-existent. Hence, flexible. Because we were travelling without a plan, we were open to everything.
So how did we go about exploring the Khandeshwari Devi Temple nearby Dun valley?
It was sort lunch we planned at Maldevta at the pine kitchen restaurant. As we had a get together we all had north Indian blended Masala Dosa. (note : If you have been to South India and had enough dosa’s you will not like that as it has stuffed pea and peanuts in it. Chutney was very good.)
We chose to enjoy the outside view and had lunch at open. During the lunch we talked about nearby places to explore as it was around 14:00PM.
Why did we choose Khandeshwari Devi Temple? Mainly because we fell in love with fresh air in the mountains and it was nearby Dwara. Himanshu Ji and Jagmohan ji was keen about a road heading towards the Dwara but none had the temple name in the discussion for going that far or any trekking.
To be frank nobody had idea that we may head toward temple. It was a simple ride toward fresh air and the road was untouched by commercial tourism. We parked our vehicle near Junyali Resort. You can see the Junyali resort mark in South east corner of the pic above.
Fresh air all we needed and we had it. Humans are always wanting more. Himanshu ji was enthusiastic in showing us his favorite spot which was a grassland in about 150 mtr uphill towards Khadeshwari Devi Temple.
The view around were really treat to the eyes. You can sit there with a guitar and play songs. Nobody was around, Just us. A breeze of wind was embracing us with a mild soft touch. In that place you will always be in dilemma weather to close the eyes and feel the nature or to see every corner which you may not able to see in next hours.
We were not tired and could go little higher to have better views and we did exactly that. Eventually we were not wrong.
In the picture below you can observe a grass land in the south west corner. We were there and now we were about 800 mtr away from the road. Wind were as smooth as earlier. It was turning to a sudden unplanned trek. We were enthusiastic in exploring more.
We trekked further upto the hill and to our surprise there were some flower plants of Marigold in the way. We now started to think for some temple trek. Our vehicle was not visible as we were on the other side of the hill and were around 2 km far from road.
We ran toward uphill to cut the time and made it quick to reach the top. Intensity of Marigold plants increased at the top. With the scenic view we had glimps of the temple at the other top. That was around 200 mtr from the top we reached. In enthusiasm we had trekked around 3 km so far. Believe me it was not at all for nothing. The temple was having a scenic beauty itself and the place was looking awesome.
We were able to see Mussoorie and Dhanolti from here. We worshiped goddess Khandeswari there. There we have met Pandit ji who was telling about Navaratra stays over there and promised us for all help he can for next visit.
It was a fantastic experience and the place which is untouched by many of tourists is still having its calm and cool. If you find a spot in only 22 km far from a city like Dehradun, it is certainly a treat. We came to know other ways to connect the road by Pandit ji. He also told us about the road connecting temple which was only 150 mtr away from it. In the end we headed back to Dehradun with a wish to visit the place in near future to stay overnight and to have the views of sunrise.
